ITQuoter is a quoting and ordering platform for IT resellers and MSPs, built by iSell Pty Ltd. It pulls supplier and distributor price lists, builds quotes and proposals that customers can accept and pay online, and carries each deal on into sales orders, purchase orders to suppliers, recurring order agreements and renewals. It also keeps a light CRM of accounts, contacts, prospects and opportunities, and a small ticket module.

Connecting ITQuoter to StackJack gives your AI assistant a family of itq_ MCP tools. MCP (Model Context Protocol) tools are the standardized commands an AI assistant can call through StackJack. With them, your AI can:

  • Look up customers - accounts and leads, their branches, contracts and favourite products, and the contacts at each of them
  • Follow the pipeline - prospects, opportunities, quotes (with their line items) and sales orders, and promote a prospect to an account or lead on Pro plans
  • Check what is on order - purchase orders and their history, products by supplier, recurring order agreements and upcoming renewals
  • Work ITQuoter's own tickets - list, read, create and update service desk tickets
  • Read the vocabulary behind every ID - stages, types, sub-types, queues, suppliers, product types, lead and campaign sources, custom fields, branch locations, teams and security roles
  • Create and change records (on Pro plans) - accounts, contacts, prospects, opportunities, quotes, orders, tickets, products and the settings above, and delete what you no longer need

How StackJack authenticates to ITQuoter

ITQuoter does not use OAuth sign-in. You give StackJack three things: your API URL, an Access Key and a Secret Key. StackJack exchanges the key pair with ITQuoter for a token, sends that token on every call and renews it by itself. You never see the token.

The connection belongs to your organization in StackJack, not to one person, and one key pair serves your whole team. ITQuoter does not say whether a key stays tied to the ITQuoter user it was issued for, so if that user is removed or disabled in ITQuoter, check that the key still works.

Your API URL is your sign-in address with api- in front

Every ITQuoter customer has their own instance, and ITQuoter does not publish a list of them. Sign in to ITQuoter and look at the address bar. It looks like https://au001.itquoter.com, where the letters and digits differ by region and by instance. Put api- in front of the host and you have your API URL:

https://au001.itquoter.com becomes https://api-au001.itquoter.com

Enter the host only. Do not add /v1 or any other path. StackJack accepts only addresses under itquoter.com, so a typo cannot send your keys somewhere else.

Getting an Access Key and Secret Key

ITQuoter does not say publicly where its API keys are issued. Look for an API or integration section in your ITQuoter settings. If you cannot find one, ask ITQuoter support to enable API access and issue an access key and secret key for you. ITQuoter describes integration support as a service, so there may be a charge.

Ask for a key that belongs to an administrator-level user. ITQuoter does not say whether a key acts as a particular user, but some of its list calls return data for the signed-in user. A key that belongs to a user with limited rights could show your AI only a slice of your data, with nothing to say so. If the key is tied to a user, it may also stop working when that user is removed or disabled, so choose a user who is staying.

What the key may do is decided in ITQuoter, not in StackJack

ITQuoter documents no scopes or permission levels for API keys. What a key can reach is decided inside ITQuoter by the user and security role behind it, so a key with limited rights produces limited behavior whichever StackJack tools are switched on. StackJack lets you switch tools off for your organization, but ITQuoter's own security roles are the real limit.

Connect it in StackJack

  1. Open the Connectors page and choose ITQuoter.
  2. Paste your API URL.
  3. Paste the Access Key and the Secret Key.
  4. Save, then use Test Connection.

Enter the Access Key and Secret Key together each time you save. StackJack stores them encrypted and never shows them again.

What is worth knowing before you start

An empty list comes back as "not found", and that is normal

ITQuoter answers an empty list, or a record that does not exist, with a "not found" message rather than with an empty answer. StackJack returns that answer as it is, so your AI sees the same words ITQuoter sent. It is not a failure, and it never counts against the health of your connection. A refused request that says anything else is treated as an error.

Lists come back in pages

Most lists take a start position and a page size. StackJack asks for a modest page by default and caps how many records one call may request. ITQuoter does not say whether the start position is a record offset or a page number, so leave it out for the first page and let your AI walk forward from there.

ITQuoter treats a page size of zero as "every record". StackJack never sends zero, so a tenant with years of orders cannot be pulled in one response by accident.

The sales order list is the exception to paging: ITQuoter offers no start position for it, so one call returns at most 200 sales orders and there is no way to ask for the next page. A full page means more may exist. Ask your AI to read a specific order by its ID.

Updates send the whole record

ITQuoter does not document whether an update replaces the record or merges into it, so every update tool asks your AI to read the record first and send it back whole with its changes. Fields left out may be cleared. For the same reason every update tool is marked destructive, so your AI assistant asks before it changes a record.

Deleting is permanent from here

ITQuoter flags a deleted record and keeps it for twelve months, but offers no call to bring one back. Treat every delete tool as permanent. They are all marked destructive.

Some tools change what customers and suppliers see

Updating a quote can change what a customer is shown, because ITQuoter delivers quotes online for signature and payment. ITQuoter does not say whether a new quote is visible to the customer before someone sends it, so creating a quote is marked destructive as well. Purchase order tools commit spend with a supplier, and ITQuoter does not say whether an order created through its API is sent on to the distributor automatically. Creating a sales order can drive purchasing and billing, and ITQuoter does not say what an order created through its API triggers. Creating an order agreement can start recurring orders that continue without another call. User and security role tools change who can sign in and what they can reach. These are marked destructive, like every update and delete, so your AI assistant asks before it acts, and you can switch any of them off.

User records can carry credentials

ITQuoter's user records include a password field, an external mailbox password and, in the vendor's own sample, an API key pair. Whether the API returns them filled in is not documented. The user tools are on StackJack's sensitive list, so an oversized answer is refused rather than saved as a downloadable file, but do not paste what they return into tickets, chat or documents.

Purchase orders and renewals may need ITQuoter's Enterprise edition

ITQuoter lists its procurement and renewals modules under the Enterprise edition. If those tools are refused, check your edition before you replace the key.

Built from ITQuoter's published reference

ITQuoter's API reference is open only to signed-in customers and was last published in May 2024. StackJack builds to that reference and has not yet been run against a live ITQuoter account. A few things the reference does not say are assumed: how long ITQuoter's sign-in token lasts, what a refused token looks like, where an API key is issued, and whether a "Version 2 Beta" or single-tenancy instance answers at the address the reference describes. If a tool fails, or ITQuoter answers in a way the tool does not expect, tell StackJack support which tool it was and what ITQuoter said. A route that differs on your version of ITQuoter is fixed from that report.

Plans and limits

Read tools are available on the Free tier. Everything that creates, changes or deletes is Pro. Business reaches the same tools as Pro and differs by monthly call quota.

ITQuoter does not publish a request limit, so StackJack paces its own requests. If ITQuoter refuses a call for going too fast, wait a moment and try again.

See the generated ITQuoter tool reference for the current inventory, plan assignment, input schemas, and destructive-action labels.

Several ITQuoter instances

If you hold more than one ITQuoter company, add one connection per company from the connector's card, name it after the company, and your AI names it on each call. Omit the name and the call runs on the default connection.

Troubleshooting

"Test Connection" fails straight after saving. Check the API URL first. It is your sign-in address with api- in front of the host, with nothing after it. ITQuoter answers an address it does not route with a "Service Temporarily Unavailable" page, which looks like an outage but is usually a mistyped URL.

ITQuoter did not accept the access key and secret key. Check both values, and that the API URL is the one for your own instance. If they are right, the key may have been disabled or replaced; get a new pair from ITQuoter and paste both values in again. A pair that is accepted but sees too little belongs to a user whose security role does not cover that part of ITQuoter.

A tool answers "not found" for something you can see in ITQuoter. Either the ID is for a different kind of record, or the key's user cannot see it. Read the list tool for that record type to find the right ID.

Purchase orders or renewals are refused. These modules may need ITQuoter's Enterprise edition.

A connection that worked stops working with no change at your end. ITQuoter can withdraw or replace API keys, and its API terms let it end access. Ask ITQuoter whether the key is still active and issue a new pair if not.

Your instance is not under itquoter.com. ITQuoter offers single-tenancy deployments, and it is not known whether one gets an address on another domain. StackJack refuses such an address today. Tell StackJack support the address and it will be looked at.
