Upgrading moves one connector to a higher tier — more tools and a larger monthly call allowance for that connector. The portal shows each tier's list price; the checkout or the priced confirmation is what you actually pay, because it also carries your multi-connector discount, proration and tax. See How live pricing is displayed.

Upgrades can be started by the primary owner, co-owners, or Administrators. (Administrators use the Connectors page — the Billing page itself is visible only to owners.)

Where to start an upgrade

There are two entry points:

  • Connectors page — each connector card on a Free plan shows Upgrade to Pro and Upgrade to Business buttons; a Pro card shows Upgrade to Business.
  • Billing page — the Upgrade button on a subscription row opens a dialog comparing the available plans, each with its price and what it includes.

Two paths, chosen for you

What the upgrade button does depends on whether your organization already has a paid subscription with the payment provider. You do not choose between them, and both start from the same button.

  • With no in-app subscription yet, a checkout opens. There is nothing to join, so StackJack opens Paddle's hosted checkout. This is also the path for an account whose only paid subscriptions are on the legacy website store.
  • With an in-app subscription already, the connector joins it. It is added to your existing bundle instead of starting a second one, so you keep one bill, one renewal date, and one multi-connector discount.

First purchase: the checkout flow

  1. Click the upgrade button for the plan you want.
  2. A secure checkout opens in a new tab, handled by Paddle (StackJack's payment provider). Your billing profile is created automatically as part of this step.
  3. Complete payment in the checkout tab.
  4. Your plan updates automatically once the payment is processed — the portal shows a confirmation that your plan will update when payment completes. This usually takes moments; refresh the page to see the new tier badge.

There is nothing to activate manually: fulfillment is driven by the payment provider confirming the transaction to StackJack.

Adding to a bundle you already have: the priced confirmation

  1. Click the upgrade button for the plan you want.
  2. A confirmation dialog opens in the portal, not a checkout tab. It quotes what you are charged today, what your next bill becomes, and the multi-connector discount you will be on.
  3. Select the confirm button. The change is applied straight away against your existing payment method — the tier badge updates without waiting for a webhook.

If the change cannot be priced or is refused, the dialog says why and the confirm button stays unavailable, so nothing is charged. The refusals are listed in If a change is refused or stops part-way.

What changes after the upgrade

  • New tools appear. Tools in the new tier become available to your AI clients the next time they refresh their tool list.
  • Your billing cycle depends on which path you took. A first purchase anchors a fresh cycle to that purchase, with a reset call counter and the new plan's allowance. Adding to an existing bundle keeps that bundle's renewal date: you are charged today for the rest of the current period, prorated, and the full amount from the next renewal.
  • Your multi-connector discount is recalculated. Adding a paid connector can move you up a rung — see Bundle discount tiers.
  • Renewals are automatic. Each successful renewal starts the next cycle and resets the call counter. Renewal dates are shown on the Billing page.

Getting Enterprise

The in-app upgrade options are Pro and Business. Enterprise (unlimited calls and full tool access) is arranged directly with StackJack — contact support. Enterprise also carries eligibility to bring your own Anthropic key, but it is not the only route: an Agent Runner plan grants the same eligibility on any connector tier. See Bring your own Anthropic key and Agent Runner plans and concurrency slots.

Legacy website-billed subscriptions

If a connector's paid plan is still billed through the StackJack website's legacy store (WooCommerce), its upgrade buttons on the Connectors page route you to the website's checkout instead of the in-app one. Everything else works the same: complete the purchase and the plan updates automatically. A connector on the Free plan is the exception: it always upgrades through the in-app path, whatever else on the account is website-billed.

The Billing page's Upgrade dialog always uses the in-app path rather than the website store, even for a website-billed subscription. Which of the two in-app paths above it takes still depends on whether you already hold an in-app subscription. After the new in-app subscription activates, the website one is canceled automatically. See Legacy WooCommerce billing.

If the plan doesn't update

If you completed payment but the tier badge hasn't changed after a few minutes:

  1. Refresh the Billing page.
  2. Check the checkout tab for a payment failure or a pending-payment notice.
  3. If payment clearly succeeded and the plan still hasn't updated, contact StackJack support — include the connector name and roughly when you paid. Support can locate and replay the purchase; you will not need to buy again.

On the in-app confirmation path there is no checkout tab to check. If it stops with a message saying the change was started and StackJack cannot tell whether it finished, do not retry it — contact support, who will reconcile the subscription. See If a change is refused or stops part-way.
