Reddit Ads is Reddit's advertising platform, exposed to StackJack through the Reddit Ads API (v3). It covers the full campaign structure — businesses, ad accounts, campaigns, ad groups, and ads — plus product catalogs, audiences, conversion pixels, reporting, targeting discovery, and lead-generation-form records during Reddit's 2026 onsite-form transition.
Connecting Reddit Ads to StackJack gives your AI assistant a broad family of reddit_ MCP tools — MCP (Model Context Protocol) tools are the standardized commands an AI assistant can call through StackJack. With them, your AI can:
- Inventory your businesses, ad accounts, funding instruments, profiles, and the whole campaign → ad group → ad tree
- Report on performance and pull ad-account change history
- Plan targeting — browse communities, interests, geolocations, devices, carriers, and languages, and get keyword and bid suggestions
- Manage (on Pro plans) campaigns, ad groups, ads, posts, product catalogs/feeds/sets, and custom/saved audiences
- Measure (on Pro plans) — send server-side conversion events through the Conversions API and submit privacy data-deletion jobs
How StackJack authenticates to Reddit Ads
Reddit Ads uses OAuth with your own Reddit Ads developer application. Rather than StackJack using a shared app, a verified Reddit business administrator creates an app in Ads Manager → Business → Developer Portal, enters its app ID and secret in StackJack, and completes authorization with a Reddit account that can reach the required businesses and ad accounts. The resulting connection is shared across your StackJack organization; team members do not each connect individually.
The connection inherits exactly the authorizing Reddit account's access. Everything your AI can see or change in Reddit Ads is bounded by what that account can do and by the scopes approved on Reddit's consent screen. StackJack requests only the union its shipping tools use: adsread, adsedit, adsconversions, adsleadgendownloader, adsmeasurement:read, adsmeasurement:write, and adsdatadeletion. The first six are listed in Reddit's current authentication guide; Reddit's separate Data Deletion guide requires adsdatadeletion. A 403 from a tool means the authorizing account, product entitlement, or approved scopes do not cover that action.
Reddit reports an access token's lifetime in expires_in and currently documents either 3,600 seconds (one hour) or 86,400 seconds (one day). StackJack requests duration=permanent, stores the resulting refresh token, and renews access automatically based on the returned lifetime. There is normally nothing to refresh manually, but you must re-authorize if the Reddit user revokes access, a business administrator deletes the app, the app secret changes, Reddit invalidates the grant, or your connection predates a newly required scope.
Before you begin
- In StackJack: you need a role that can manage connectors (tenant Owner, a co-owner, or an Administrator).
- In Reddit: a verified account that is a business administrator for the relevant Reddit Ads business. Only verified business admins can create or manage Ads API applications.
- Callback URL: keep the StackJack setup drawer open so you can copy its exact redirect URI. Even a small mismatch causes authorization to fail.
Step 1 — Create a Reddit app
- Sign in to Reddit Ads Manager as a verified business administrator.
- In Ads Manager, open Business → Developer Portal. Reddit's Create a Developer Application guide shows the current interface and field requirements.
- Choose Add Apps → Create an app. Enter a descriptive app name, an About URL, and a business-admin primary contact.
- Set Redirect URL to the exact callback URL shown in the StackJack Reddit Ads setup drawer.
- Choose Create App, then copy the generated app ID and app secret. Store the secret in your password manager until you have completed StackJack setup.
Step 2 — Add the credentials and authorize in StackJack
- In the StackJack portal, open Connectors.
- Select the Reddit Ads card. Choose How To Connect for the inline checklist or Configure to enter credentials.
- Paste the Reddit app ID and secret.
- Choose Authorize. StackJack sends you to Reddit with the callback URI and the seven scopes listed above. Review them before approving; StackJack does not request unrelated Reddit-account scopes.
- Review the Reddit consent screen and approve it with the intended business account. Reddit redirects you back to StackJack, where the connection is validated.
What happens when you authorize
- The app ID, secret, and resulting refresh token are stored encrypted in Azure Key Vault — never in the StackJack database and never shown back to you.
- If this is the first time you configure Reddit Ads, a Free-tier subscription for the connector is created automatically so its Free tools work right away.
- StackJack validates without changing Reddit data by making an authenticated
GET /merequest. - The drawer remains the source of truth for connection state. A successful probe shows Connected. A failed probe preserves the credential and shows Needs Attention with an upstream reason and a Re-test action.
Organization-wide, not per-member
Reddit's authorization is inherently tied to one Reddit account, so StackJack treats Reddit Ads as an organization-wide connection completed once by an administrator. There is no per-member Reddit sign-in — once an admin has authorized it, the connector is available to everyone in your organization with access. Team members do not connect Reddit Ads individually on the My Connectors page.
Lead Generation Forms transition
Reddit has announced that the onsite Lead Generation Forms API will be sunset on September 21, 2026, while its GET and LIST endpoints remain available to retain existing form records. Reddit also says existing ads that use onsite forms will be paused on September 30, 2026. Before those dates:
- Export or otherwise retain the onsite form records you need with the Reddit Ads read tools.
- Move new lead capture to an offsite form.
- Measure the replacement flow with Reddit Pixel, the Conversions API, or both.
- Re-authorize StackJack if this Reddit Ads connection was established before
adsleadgendownloaderand the measurement scopes were added to the consent request. OAuth does not add scopes to an existing grant automatically.
Do not build new long-lived workflows around reddit_create_lead_gen_form; Reddit has scheduled that API surface for retirement.
Working with the campaign structure
Reddit's resources form a tree: businesses → ad accounts → campaigns → ad groups → ads, with product catalogs, audiences, pixels, and lead-gen forms hanging off ad accounts and businesses. Start with reddit_list_my_businesses to discover business IDs, then drill down with reddit_list_ad_accounts_by_business and the campaign/ad-group/ad list tools. The targeting-discovery tools (communities, interests, geolocations, and the rest) supply the IDs you use when creating ad groups or saved audiences.
Large lists are returned a page at a time. Each response carries a pagination.next_url; the part you need is its page.token value, which is an opaque cursor. Pass that token into the next call's pageToken and StackJack sends it back verbatim as the page.token query parameter. Do not pass the whole next_url, and do not reuse a token from a different tool or a different filter set — a cursor is only meaningful to the query that produced it. Omit pageToken to restart at the first page. Page size is capped at 1,000, with tighter per-endpoint limits on some lists.
Plans and available tools
- Free includes reads across businesses, ad accounts, campaigns, ad groups, ads, posts, product catalogs, audiences, pixels, and reporting, plus targeting discovery and query/validation lookups.
- Pro adds create/update/delete operations for campaigns, ad groups, ads, posts, product catalogs/feeds/sets and their products, and custom/saved audiences — plus the Conversions API and privacy data-deletion jobs. A lead-form create tool remains present only for Reddit's pre-sunset transition window; do not depend on it for new long-lived workflows.
- Business offers the same tool set as Pro with a higher monthly call quota.
See the generated Reddit Ads tool reference for the current inventory, plan assignment, input schemas, and destructive-action labels.
Current pricing and quotas are shown in the portal's Billing page and at checkout.
Safety note. A handful of Pro tools are irreversible or high-impact, and StackJack marks them destructive: deleting a custom audience, product catalog, product feed, or product set; batch-deleting catalog products; and submitting a data-deletion job (a permanent, right-to-erasure request). Whether your AI application asks you to confirm before running one depends on that application's own settings — see Destructive tools and confirmation. Review those settings, and scope your AI's access deliberately — use the tool selections on the MCP Setup page and the Permissions page to enable only the actions you want an AI to take.
Rate limits
Reddit publishes endpoint-group quotas, not one account-wide number. Examples include 400 campaign-management reads per 60 seconds, 200 campaign-management writes per 60 seconds, 100 targeting-taxonomy calls per 60 seconds, 60 reporting calls per 60 seconds, and lower limits for funding, leads, forecasting, and privacy endpoints. Reddit reports the applicable policy and remaining capacity in RateLimit-Policy and RateLimit response headers; the Conversions API has separate limits and does not return those standard headers.
StackJack also applies an aggregate per-tenant pace of about 100 requests per minute and records 429 backoff. That guard does not replace Reddit's lower endpoint-specific limits, so a busy workflow can still be throttled. Let the client retry after the indicated delay and avoid launching overlapping full-account crawls. See Reddit's current rate-limit table for the authoritative group assignments and quotas.
Rotating or replacing the credentials
The Reddit app ID and secret, plus the account authorization, are the recovery secret. If you rotate the app secret in Reddit, delete the app, revoke the authorization, or need scopes added after the original consent, open Connectors → Reddit Ads → Configure, enter the current app ID and secret, and complete Authorize again. Re-testing alone cannot enlarge an existing OAuth grant.
Deleting a developer app in Reddit is irreversible and disconnects every service using that app. Prefer creating a replacement, updating StackJack, and confirming the new connection before deleting the old app.
Disconnecting Reddit Ads
Use Disconnect in the Reddit Ads drawer to remove StackJack's stored app credentials and OAuth authorization and stop future Reddit Ads API calls. Disconnecting StackJack does not delete the developer app in Reddit or undo campaigns, audiences, catalog changes, conversions, or privacy jobs already submitted. Remove or delete the app separately in Reddit only if you intend to revoke it for every integration that uses it.
For a Free subscription, the confirmation can also remove Reddit Ads tools from tool lists. A paid connector plan remains separate billing state; use Manage on Billing on the connector card if you also want to end it — it opens this connector's removal dialog on the Billing page. A legacy website subscription reads Cancel Plan instead.
