Some StackJack features ask a specialist service for a quick yes or no, or a short classification, instead of running a full AI model. StackJack calls that fast decisions, and the service behind it is TypeSafe AI. It is a different vendor from Anthropic, which runs your automations, and the two never share a key, a bill or a setting.
Where fast decisions are used
What it costs you today
Nothing. Fast decisions are not billed today. Every call is recorded. If billing starts, calls made before then are never billed.
If StackJack later switches charging on, this is what changes and what does not:
- A decision step or a smart filter costs a small flat number of credits per call — per call, not per token.
- Nothing recorded before that switch is ever billed to you. A call is priced when it happens and is never re-priced afterwards.
- It appears in credit history on its own line, naming how many calls it covers. It is never folded into a run's credit total, never counted against a run's per-run credit ceiling, and never changes a run's refund.
- Smart tool search, tool suggestions, support drafting and builder assistance stay free, always.
- If your balance cannot cover a decision, the decision is refused rather than partly made. A decision step then fails under the author's on failure choice, and a smart filter applies its outage choice — by default, the run starts.
Your own Anthropic key does not change any of this. Different vendor, different key.
Using your own TypeSafe key
An owner can put your organization's own TypeSafe key on file. The card is Your TypeSafe key, on Automations → Credits, next to the Anthropic credentials card.
- Only an owner can set, replace or remove it — the same permission that governs your billing. Everyone who can open that tab sees the card, whether a key is on file and the last four characters of it, so a teammate can tell which account is in use without being able to change it. Four characters is enough to confirm the key on screen is the one you meant and far too short to be used as a credential.
- StackJack checks the key with the vendor before storing it. A key TypeSafe refuses is not saved, and the card tells you so. If the vendor cannot be reached at that moment, nothing is written — try again rather than assuming it saved.
- The key is stored in Azure Key Vault, never in the application database and never in a log, an error message or a support diagnostic.
- Calls made on your key are never billed by StackJack, now or after the switch. You pay TypeSafe directly.
- It is used for decision steps and smart filters only. Smart tool search, support drafting and builder assistance always run on StackJack's own account, so your key is never spent on platform work.
- There is no fall-back. If your key is on file and StackJack cannot read it, the call is refused, not quietly moved onto StackJack's key. Remove the key if you want StackJack's account used instead.
- Removing your key takes effect on the next call. Deleting your organization removes the stored key with your other secrets.
Organizations with an EU storage home must turn this on
If your organization's storage home is in the European Union, every fast-decision feature is off until you turn it on — including smart tool search. Nothing is sent to TypeSafe AI before then, and each feature simply behaves the way it did before fast decisions existed.
The switch is the Fast decisions card on the Settings page (in the sidebar, under More). It is there rather than beside the key, so it can be reached even when your organization's Automations section is switched off:
With this turned on, StackJack sends webhook, ticket and search text from this organization to TypeSafe AI for processing. TypeSafe AI is hosted outside the European Union.
- It is a single control for the whole capability, not one per feature.
- It is set per organization, by an owner, co-owner or administrator. Everyone in the organization can open the Settings page and see the current choice.
- Turning it back off returns every one of those features to its earlier behaviour and stops anything further being sent.
- Organizations with a United States storage home have no such switch; fast decisions are on for them by default.
What is sent, and to whom, is listed in External Data Processing.
